Canvas of Recovery
Writing Myself Whole
(Completed Series)
Healing is never easy—it’s a journey that eventually touches us all. This series was part of my senior exhibition as I completed my BFA in May 2023. I created it with the hope that it would leave a lasting impression on those who experienced it, while also reflecting how I spent my time in school: using art as a vessel for healing.
These letters hold the words I once spoke to myself in silence. They’re paired with the observance months that mirror those moments, bridging personal healing with shared recognition.
The Profundity of My Glimmering Existence
(Completed Series)
Profundity: deep insight; great depth of knowledge or thought.
Glimmer: a faint or wavering light, a slight indication, or a small moment of joy or connection
This series was both conceived and completed during my time as a BFA student. The title reflects how I see myself and my life while I try and find happiness and my life appears radiant at the surface there is still a presence of emotional depth and it leaves me to question my own endurance for life.
In one of my oil painting classes, I had the privilege of working with a professor who not only supported but encouraged me to use my personal story as the foundation for my practice. Over the course of the semester, I used oil paint as a means of exploring and expressing my experiences. Thankfully oil paint offers more working time.
Pieces in Process
(Series in the Works)
I’ve always been drawn to puzzles—there’s something about fitting pieces together that speaks to me. Lately, I’ve also discovered a deep connection to tufting, and I wanted to merge these passions into a work that brings awareness to causes close to my heart. I began by choosing symbols and selecting the corresponding awareness colors, letting each one guide the narrative. From there, I sketched a body and started crafting puzzle pieces to nest within it—each one a reflection of a story, an identity, a truth. Once complete, the piece is meant to hang as a unified whole—each fragment holding space, and together, forming something both personal and collective.
Marked in Ribbon, Held in Memory
( Series in the Works)
Another series I created using yarn was born from my desire to improve my control with the tufting gun—while also creating something deeply meaningful. I chose to craft awareness ribbons, not just as symbols, but as soft, textured representations of hope and healing. Each one is meant to bring light to the experiences they represent and to gently spread awareness through color, form, and fiber.
Each ribbon is mounted to wood and designed to stand both physically and symbolically. As a gesture of resilience and a call for awareness they’re meant to leave a meaningful impact, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and remember.
